I need to make a new promise to myself, update my blog at least a couple times a week. From now on, that is what I will be doing. Doesn't matter if I write a sentence or a few words...I will update this as much as I can.
So the question I posed was "How am I doing?"
In my journey to lose 100lbs, I am down about 14lbs this month. That sounds incredible, but I wanted more. I haven't been working out much, just here and there..that is a failure on my part. The weight loss has purely been from my eating well. I am 100% plant-based in my eating...aka a vegan. Before this month I was a junk food vegan. I ate out loads of times, I ate all the fake meats and processed goods. I had heard all the stories about people going vegan and losing weight...I lost some, but it stopped. If I wasn't careful I would also gain weight. Cutting out the junk...the processed crap is the key. I drink 100% water now too. I have also been working to eliminate all oil from my diet. Oil? Yes, oil is liquid fat...a tiny bit of it equals many, many calories. It's close to the same as drinking a sugary soda. What about all the nutrients in oil like omega 3s and all that? I get all of those nutrients by eating the whole food from which the oil is processed from. Olive oil is made from olives. If I eat whole olives, I still get all the benefits of olive oil plus I get all the fiber as well. It makes a lot of sense when you look at it.
The diet is going very strong. I was tracking my calories, but with this kind of diet..there really is no need to track it all. I am consistently coming in under my daily allotment with ease. This is why the weight is coming of fairly regularly. Why is this not good enough for me? My workouts and my marathon training have just not been happening. It a combination of pure laziness, polar vortexes and lack of focus. I set a goal..to run a marathon. That marathon is less than 3 months away! The most I've run is 10 miles at this point. I haven't even run in two weeks though. Every day it has been snowy, icy or below zero temps. I hate this cold weather so much. My wife has said that maybe I should hold off on this marathon and choose one closer to when I am ready. The problem I have is that I am the type of person that will put off something a hundred times before I actually do it. I will do it, but I want to run that marathon this year. I want to get the first one out of the way so that I can set a mark for me to improve upon. I am going to run, walk or crawl my way through this marathon in April. I will cross that finish line. I believe I can do it. I don't care if it takes me all day. Thankfully it looks as though there is a break in the weather this weekend...I will be out and running. It might rain, but then I love running in the rain. I need to find a way to motivate myself to wake up early each morning and do my workouts. My alarm goes off, I hit snooze about ten times. I need to try and find a way to stop myself from doing that. I know part of it has to do with me going to bed so late. My wife works the second shift and I find myself missing her so much that I wait up just to see her and give her a kiss before I go to bed. It's killing me in the mornings though. Perhaps if I had a way to wake up later then that would be awesome, but I don't at this time. I will keep working on it though. I am going to ask for some motivation on Facebook and see what everyone comes up with. I am also going to try to push through the after work blahs and try working out at night too.
So that's pretty much how I am doing right now. I am feeling great, but I still feel a little lost and that I can be doing so much better. Tomorrow I weigh in for the month...let's hope I did better.
Until next time...adieu
